It probably goes without saying that I got this idea from the FFX/FFX-2 Quotes mini-game that seems to have died long, long ago. Basically, this is the same game, with a wider variety of options and a slightly different set of rules to accommodate the wider variety from which you can take your quotes.
Basically, you post a quote from a movie, a video/computer game, a television show (including anime) or a book. (To be honest, any media source is fine, if I didn't cover something.) You then say what kind of source it's from (movie, game, et cetera), but not, obviously, what specific source it's from. Then folks try to guess what it's from and (if applicable) who said it. First person who guesses correctly gets to post the next quote.
No Googling quotes! There's no way for us to confirm this, but we're on the honor system here, so be honorable. You can Google a source that you think it's from, to confirm your guess if you want, but you just can't Google the quote itself. That be cheatin'.
Also, you can pick obscure sources, but if you do, at least let us know that it's obscure so we don't go scouring mainstream sources trying to find the quote. But really, it's more fun if you pick well-known or at least recent sources, because then the game will keep moving, since people will know the quote.
And just to keep the game from stagnating, if no one guesses the quote's source in, say, ten days, the person who posted it gets to pick someone to go next (because we don't want that person to go twice in a row XP) and then they can just feel superior.
All in all, it's pretty straightforward, so I'll stop trying to think of more rules to close up possible loopholes.
I'll go first, of course, because I can. XP
For starters, this quote is from an older, but very well-known and mainstream book. It's been an important concept to me for a long time, so I thought it fitting that I open with it.
"My father once told me that respect for the truth comes close to being the basis for all morality. 'Something cannot emerge from nothing,' he said. This is profound thinking if you understand how unstable 'the truth' can be."
So now guess what book it's from, and if applicable, who said it.
(EDIT after seeing the whole post: Wow, I talk too much. -_-)
(EDIT EDIT: New rule! If nobody seems to be getting the quote's source, you can give up to three hints, preferably not all at once. Because we're impatient. )
