Anyone may join this Pern-themed RP, just make sure you put up a similar character sheet before making your reply/introductory post. You may modify it at anytime, so don't be shy about making a draft. Just make sure you have it spell-checked at the very least and wait to be approved before jumping into the RP.
--Character Profile--
Name: Ues Gender: Female Age: 15
Physical Description and Personality: Often mistaken for a young lad, Ues has short light brown hair that is always messy and unkempt. Her eyes are a flat grey color which are considered by her family to be quite unreadable, and as such, Ues is very adept at spinning very convincing tales. Standing on the short side of 5'2'' this Rider Candidate considers herself to have the perfect lanky frame for the job.
Anyone outside her family assumes she is male, which is exactly what the young girl wants them to think. She has no definition in her figure that would suggest otherwise, unless of course one happened to catch her in the middle of changing... Which would in all probability rarely happen. Ues wraps herself down to make herself appear flat. If she were to dress like a woman and clean herself up she would be very attractive, figure wise, but that’s her mother’s opinion not hers.
Ues has a very confident attitude when it comes to her personal ambitions and is always "strutting" around staking her claim to things. Her personalty is bold and she's not afraid to state her opinions bluntly. However, in certain situations she plays up this attitude for the benefit and trickery of others. She is always trying to act as manly as possible so she tends to overreact and overact certain characteristic. This can lead to some awfully interesting results at times.
Ues' goal in life is to obtain a dragon, but she does not want a Gold for that brings too much unwanted attention and responsibility with it. She has dreams of getting a Blue dragon for that is her favorite color, and because their size is smaller and more manageable. While she is still fairly young, her attitude and general knowledge of dragons has gained her a spot as a Canditate for a Hatching.
Beasties: Use has Impressed 3 fire lizards, one Gold named Prinsaw, a Blue called Nicholst, and a Green called Serember. She often is surrounded by her Lizard family and often has one of them running some sort of errand for her. She treats the lizards like siblings rather than pets.
--RP Opening--
Ues stood on the hot sands overflowing with confidence. Her flat grey eyes scanned quickly across the faces of the boys around her. They didn’t have the dedication and desire that she had. They thought she was like them for her appearance, but she was so much more…
The first eggs began to wobble and break free. She would have one of the hatchlings. Ues was sure and unafraid even as those around her were beginning to cower like pathetic little babes.
The first egg broke fully to reveal a handsome blue.
Ues stared at it intently.
“Do you approve of me?” she thought at it as it made it’s way forward.
It rejected her without so much as a glance in her direction and feebly went to the boy next to her.
“Fine… I guess he is more interesting for his parts. Whatever.” She thought with mild distain.
Several minutes passed with no dragon hatching coming to her even for a second.
“Dragons cannot be this sexist,” she thought getting impatient. When she could take no more, Ues took a few steps forward toward the eggs. A large one near her shook violently. Ues did not flinch. She could hear it’s cries from inside the thick shell. Was it stuck?
She waited.
The world around her stopped.
A curious feeling spread across Ues prompting her to take another bold step closer to the egg.
“Hurry up,” she told it bending down next to it, “I’m waiting for you. You are much stronger than that stupid little shell.” Hearing her, it shook with more urgency and put a large crack down the center.
“Very good,” Ues said tapping the egg along the crack, “Now for the rest. Come on now.”
The world made a sudden noise at her. Yelling? The young girl, masquerading as a lad, did not even look up. So she did not see the source of the harsh noise--so intent was her focus upon the egg. Later Ues would realize the noise were prompts of protest from the watchful crowd who disapproved of her being so close to the clutch let alone touching one of the eggs.
“You are mine,” she said tonelessly as the egg gave another great shudder, “I can hear you, beyond even this roar of senseless noise... You are mine, so hurry out of that shell!”
The crowd continued to complain, but at that moment the dragon broke free of its shell. A sparkling bronze dragon emerged and shook itself awkwardly. It crooned and looked at Ues with beautiful blue eyes.
I am Peredith, and I am yours… Lucky you, right? It sounded very smug, it was as if it knew it was the most perfect dragon ever born...
“Yes, lucky me,” she responded with an uncharacteristic smile, “Sure I wanted a blue, but you have my personality, so I’ll forgive you.”
You are very pretty Ues, you should show off more, it rubbed against her, I love you so you'd better make this rumbling in my stomach go away. The little dragon said with as close to a laugh as a dragon could get.
Ues placed her fingertips on Peredth's soft nose, "Your complements fall on deaf ears, but I'll feed you anyway. I'm rather hungry myself."
She helped her dragon to his feet and together they wobbled and swayed their way off of the hot sands. None of the remaining dud eggs mattered, in fact, nothing else in the world mattered to Ues and her dragon. Peredth proved to be quite steady on his feet stumbling only once because his wings were in the way. Ues couldn't have been more proud. They were almost off of the Hot sands when a voice called and caught her attention...
Ues' first thought was echoed by Peredth, I don't understand why someone would need to interrupt us right now.

('Kay, here's my attempt.
I have been doing a bit of research, and I've learned quite a bit, but nothing too intensive; still, keep in mind that I haven't actually read the Pern books. I took a few cues from your own description/introduction, Silver, so I hope I didn't misinterpret anything or step too far outside what would be plausible. I tried to be pretty circumspect, though.
It's my hope that Atta will bond with a dragon who will eventually get him to open up and have more confidence.
Not to mention having a dragon will be awesome. XD
I have an idea for my intro post, but I wanted to make sure the profile is acceptable first.)Name: Atrisen 'Atta' Daloris Gender: Male Age: 17 Physical Description and Personality: Atta's appearance is quite at odds with his personality; he tends to dress in simple, practical clothing, and it's extremely rare that he is seen wearing anything that isn't some shade of brown. He is exactly six feet tall even at his young age, and weighs in at 174 pounds of muscle, due to the manual labor he's constantly doing at home. Psychologically, though, Atta is a reticent and timid recluse who rarely opens up to anyone except family. This isn't due to any antisocial tendencies; he's mostly just shy, and greatly lacks confidence. Atta is not by any means the type of person to try and distance himself from the crowd, or to do anything out of the ordinary without provocation. He likes nothing more than to be either useful or ignored. Atta tends to become extremely nervous when he's the center of attention; he actually had a minor panic attack years ago, when his parents introduced him to several distant cousins. Due to his parents' urging (in the hopes that their son will come out of his shell), Atta has taken up studying dragons in an unenthusiastic attempt to obtain one at a Hatching. He is not optimistic that a dragon will ever Impress to him, but at his parents' insistence, he persists. Beasties: Terisath, a green dragon.

((EDIT: Changed personal pronouns as well as the last half or so of the post, from the moment Atta meets Terisath to the end of the post.
Ta-dum, intro post. Godspeed to meh. Also, going to edit his character description to include a full name, since no one in their right mind would name a child simply 'Atta'. Also, I found something on Wikipedia that changed my mind about what color dragon to give Atta. XD))
Atta wrung his hands while he waited for something, anything, to indicate a change in the current - tense - status quo. Or maybe he was the only one who felt tense. It always seemed like the others were at ease no matter the situation; Ues (he thought that was the boy's name; Atta had never actually spoken to him, but he admired the boy's determination and boldness) most of all. But Atta hung back slightly. Part of him thought he was a bit hypocritical; he didn't really expect a dragon - a dragon, of all things! - to take any special interest in him, and despite that pessimism, he found himself furtively hoping against hope that one would. What a joy it would be, to have something - someone? - linked to his mind, to his very soul, someone that would trust him and rely on him and... Well, all of that sentimental nonsense. True, being alone was very nice; it meant there was no way to screw up. You couldn't really screw up if no one needed you to do anything.
But a dragon... Somehow, that made it all different.
Of course, he was nothing special, and unlikely to catch the attention of a newborn. He opened his mouth partly in surprise, partly in baseless joy, to see that Ues seemed to have Impressed a dragon. He turned his eyes back to the eggs; several of the boys had attached themselves to cracking eggs, the previously macho guys now reduced to cooing and making big eyes at their newfound precious joys. Atta took a step forward and looked around at the eggs, dropping his gaze; unsurprisingly, none of them seemed interested. He found himself already thinking forward to more classes, more peaceful (but boring) solitude, more waiting for the next Hatching. He'd already been to one Hatching, and failed to Impress a dragon. But then, his parents had told him that was because he hadn't so much as made eye contact with any of the newborns. He wondered how much effect eye contact could actually have. Experimentally, he sought the gaze of a skimpy little blue looking around in confusion, but even after it noticed him and stared at him for a few seconds, it seemed to lose interest and wobble off. Sighing, Atta looked down.
And found himself taking a startled step back from a gleaming baby green staring up at him with wide eyes. After a moment, he blinked, and the dragon's head tilted like a dog catching a distant sound.
For just a second, Atta found himself aware of a hundred tiny things. The barely-audible pounding of his nervous heart in his ears. The feel of the cool breeze moving each hair on his head and bare arms. The sound of the boys around him fawning over their new baby dragons. The ache of having stood for so long. The shine of the sun on the baby dragon's glistening scales...
Atta's breathing hitched, but he barely noticed, because time had stopped anyway.
I'm Terisath, he heard in his mind. He felt the ingress of air as his mouth fell open just slightly and he stared, almost disbelieving but too dazed for it to be a matter of belief, into her jewel eyes. Then she butted his chest lightly with her head, and he took an unbalanced step back. Care to introduce yourself, darling?
For a moment he wasn't even certain what she was asking; his own thoughts were jumbled enough, the words of another were almost unintelligible. The unreality, and the ecstasy, of the situation overpowered all else. Her eyes, he thought distantly, were like a drug.
"A - Atta," he said when he finally worked out the meaning of her words. "I mean, Atrisen Daloris, but, well, folks call me - "
Atta. I like that. You seem nice, Atta. Of course, you'd seem nicer if I weren't so hungry.
He hesitated, still dazed beyond coherent thought, but after a moment, he understood. "Of course - Of course. Terisath." Her name, too, was intoxicating - or was it just the image that her name conjured up in his mind? She was beautiful. "Let's go and get you a bite to eat."

"Hey!" the voice addressing Ues was from one of the Wingseconds, her superior technically, his expression was firm, "You--"
Ues knew what he was going to say. 'You need to show more respect--listen--to your higher ups. What were you thinking going near the clutch so brazenly like that?!' or whatever.
"Oh shells," the girl rolled her eyes and interrupted before the man could really begin talking, "I'd say this Impression was made before Peredith had even hatched. You aren't going to argue against a Bronze are you?" There was a certain amount of smugness that escaped through Ues tone. Not the most respectful of behaviors towards an older Rider, but he was a BrownRider after all. Regardless of his current position of authority Ues was vain in the fact she believed her Peredith to be vastly superior...
What else was to be expected? She wasn't born a weyrbrat after all, so someone in her position especially was bound to be a little overzealous.
The Wingsecond frowned, clearly unsure of what to say to the new Weyrling and as such he waved her off, "Just make sure you use your ears from now on."
"Yes sir," Ues said with some sincerity. She did want to be a Wingleader someday--yes a new goal brought on by her beautiful Bronze...
"Peredith," Ues said swiftly, cutting off any chance the Wingsecond had of pursing a conversation, "Let us get off the Sands."
Yes, the dragonet replied with some urgency, I am very eager to eat
A few moments later Ues had arrived in the back room where bowls of fresh meat lay in wait for the starved hatchlings. She quickly strode past the other Weyrlings and snatched up a generous portion of food for Peredith. With another rare smile Ues offered a hunk to the starving young dragon. The meat quickly vanished and the girl let out a laugh. For a moment eyes landed on her with amusement. Ues flinched. Her laugh was very girly and could potentially give her away...
I wouldn't worry about it. It's not like they can kick you out. I wouldn't let them anyway.
Peredith made everything better...
"You're right," her expression went back to a happy one, "I don't care what any of them think. I have you and that's all that matters...here! Have another piece." She handed another chunk of meat which also proceeded to vanish. "You might wanna' take it easy and chew a little more."
Maybe later. Give me more. Peredith's tone was very lighthearted despite still being ravenously hungry.
"Here," Ues said standing up and looking around for a moment, "Keep eating while I grab some oil for you...I'm getting itchy for you."
If this food wasn't so good I'd have told you I was starting to feel scratchy. Their bond was simply amazing.
As Ues found some oil she paused to look at a new GreenRider. She'd seen him around but couldn't quite recall the lad's name. He must have been a Weyrbrat because Ues got the feeling that blood ties to Riders might have been the only thing that got him an Impression at all. He just had that sort of personality. At least that's what she thought. Still holding the oil in her hand, Ues made an awkward motion towards Peredith and said wordlessly through their link that he should come over.
Normally Ues wouldn't give a second glance to anyone unless they called her first, but something about this lad and his dragon caught her attention. His green really was something--not as nice as a blue, or her Peredith of course, but it couldn't be denied that the dragonet was gorgeous for a Green.
"I'm Ues. This is Peredith. What are your names?" Ues calmly addressed her fellow Weyrling and his pretty little green.

((*feint evil laughter descends from the hills to the valley below as some great evil is unleashed.* Finally! I have just the person to add to this mixing pot of reverse gender-picking dragons!))
Name: T'ceil (Treceil) Gender: Male Age: 20
Physical Description and Personality: T'ceil, like his Zenith is small, fast, and can keep on going for quite a while. He has never been at the top of a girl's list but he would never hit anywhere near the bottom either. Blue-gray eyes peak out from constantly tousled pale brown hair along with a quiet smile.
T'ceil, although he has been told by quite a lot of people that he looks good in riding gear, honestly prefers a simple tunic and trews. His parents made him a mixed breed between Teglar and Ruatha, seeming to get some of the best features from both; including Impression of a dragon!
T'ceil is bright and cheerful and always willing to give a bit of advice; though do not try to trick him as he does have a certain streak of ruthlessness that only come about when he witnesses bulling. He is very quick to act on his heart and his mind as both are quite quick. T'ceil hopes that even though he is a blue rider that he can someday be a wing leader.
History: T'ceil's parent's met and fell in love at a gather. His mother being Ruathan and his father being from Teglar; When they married(at the next Gather) His mother moved into his father's hold. T'ceil (then Treceil) was born the second son and eventual older brother to one boy and two girls. he lived quite happily aiding his father and elder brother with the Runner beasts that was his hold's specialty.
Nothing every exciting ever seemed to come T'ceil's way til his 9th turn; when he was searched! However this seeming strand of luck did not stick through to the fist hatching he stood on the sands for, not the second, third or fourth time in fact; but, as T'ceil was quite stubborn on the mater it was the fifth time on the sands that Treceil became T'ceil, rider of Blue Zenith at the age of 10.
T'ceil now serves under the Honshu Weyr but comes to help train new riders because of his lax duties.
Beasties: Zenith: a very large blue dragon(just about the same size and length as a brown) with a high level of curiosity and a counteracting laid back nature.
((tell me if I need to change everything
and to be safe I won't do an intro-post til its approved...))

((I don't think I've ever gone quite so far out on a limb before... -_-;; I barely have any idea what I'm doing, but I'm basing what I don't know of Pern on what I do know of Mercedes' Lackey's Dragon Jousters, which I believe was loosely based on Pern. EDIT: I got ninja-posted by a new character. Great, more people to notice my mistakes. )) Atta walked alongside Terisath the entire way, his eyes glued to the creature beside him. Her affectionate amusement filtered through the bizarre - but by no means unwelcome - bond they now seemed to share, and he could tell she was choosing their path so that he wouldn't walk into anything. He was fine with that; it meant he didn't have to take his eyes off her. Before he knew it, they were surrounded not by hatching dragonets, but by hungry newborns slurping down bowlfuls of meat while their riders watched them with big eyes. Atta himself tore his eyes away from Terisath to look around, wondering where he ought to settle with his new love, and had just decided on a nice isolated corner when a movement caught his eye. Ues, the boy he'd noted earlier, was waving him over. The usual nervousness sprang up almost immediately, but with Terisath beside him, he suddenly felt a little bolder. As well you should, darling. I think the lad wants to introduce himself. And, look, there's an untouched bowl of wonderful-looking meat, so why don't you get acquainted while I enjoy the meal?He couldn't tell if she was trying to be funny, but he smiled; the ethereal sound of her voice in his mind was pleasant enough to evoke a smile no matter what she was saying. "I'm Ues," the boy said without preamble as soon as Atta and Terisath were within earshot. "This is Peredith. What are your names?" Atta blinked, a little taken aback at Ues' straightforwardness. First things first, though - he reached down into the bowl Terisath had mentioned and lifted a slab of cold, wet meat. Terisath plucked it eagerly from his hands and didn't attempt to hide her enjoyment of it. "Terisath," he said slowly, and paused. "I mean, that's her name... Terisath. I'm Atrisen. Atta, if you like." The words were barely out of his mouth and he was already looking at Terisath again. As the last of the meat - herdbeast? - went down her gullet, her eyes met his. Without waiting to be told, he knelt and picked out another hunk of herdbeast meat for her. "They're so amazing," he said absently, half to Ues, half to himself. His eyes briefly went over to Ues, and thence to Peredith. Seeing the other boys fawning over their dragons, and how silly they looked, didn't make him any less in love with Terisath. He opened his mouth, but too many words were vying for the opportunity to be said, and none of them managed to emerge. Eventually he closed his mouth without saying anything else. Smiling weakly, he looked back to Terisath.

OOC: Ha ha ha. Nice Rynne. Your character should totally hook up with solipsism's, it'd be adorable. The only problem with your character sheet is that there is no marriage on Pern. At least with those in Weyrs. They'd be Weyrmates, but not "married". Furthermore, children in Weyrs are rarely, if at all, raised by their birth parents. They are fostered out. Anyway, that's all I'm going to say. It's alright though. Your character is pretty cool. You're safe to intro post. You know though, it's funny, you had the same idea I had about a Blue dragon-size wise. That's what I was going to do before my love-affair with the Bronze. Hee hee.
Oh and to solipsism... The proper term for "beef" on Pern would be Herdbeast. Although the meat could also easily be Wherry an ugly gryphen-like beast, but yeah.
----- ----- ----- ----- -----
"Terisath," the boy said with a pause, "I mean, that's her name... Terisath. I'm Atrisen. Atta, if you like."
Ues blinked slowly as he spoke, after a moment a look of great bemusement spread across her face as A'sen told her his little nickname--Ues could not see how he took that honorific from his full and would probably not use the friendly "Atta" towards him.
A moment later Ues watched as A'sen performed the same fluid feeding ritual with Terisath as she had done with Peredith.
Those two are a good pair. Peredith commented lightly before questioning with a slight annoyance, Oil?
"They're so amazing," A'sen said seeming quite disconnected from the actual words coming out of his mouth. Ues could well relate, despite her speech she might have as well been in between herself. It was too incredible to believe.
"I know..." she said softly, turing some oil onto her hands, "I can hardly believe my luck Impressing Peredith here."
Luck? Yeah, right. Peredith said with a croon as the oil spread over his drying skin and soothed the itching perfectly. If anyone is lucky here it's me.
"What do you mean by that?" Ues stared at her dragonet curiously. It seemed strange to her that Peredith would feel that way.
I wouldn't have hatched for anyone else. You're the only one who would understand me. The way he spoke to her was so matter-of-factly, but it still caught her somewhat off guard.
"I think that's why Impressions are so beautiful, silly." She stared at Peredith lovingly for a moment before straightening and relaying her conversation to A'sen if only to be more polite, "Peredith just told me he wouldn't have hatched for anyone else because we understand each other so well. All dragons feel like that about their Riders I'm sure. Right Terisath?" Ues flashed a momentary smile at the precious young green.

((I edited the beef. XD
Quick question, though I think I already know the answer; do riders sand their dragons or just oil them? In the Dragon Jousters there's a whole bunch of cleaning and grooming to be done. I'm not sure if sanding would be necessary though, especially on a newborn dragon.))
Terisath's response to Ues' question was directed at Atrisen: Absolutely.
He nodded, faintly, and then noticed Ues grooming Peredith. Suddenly feeling very out-of-sorts and dull for having forgotten, he glanced around. He'd never actually been in this area before, so even though he knew (in theory) how to groom a dragon, he didn't know where they kept the... ah. He spotted an assortment of tools and supplies near the far wall, and knelt to hand up another piece of meat. As Terisath took it from him, he laid a hand on the side of her neck. Indeed, the scales were beginning to dry.
"I'm going to get some oil," Atrisen said quietly. "I'll be right back."
There's no hurry, but stay in sight, she replied. He wasn't sure how serious she was; would she get nervous without him around? He wondered just how dependent a dragon was on her (or his) rider. You may find out if you disappear on me, darling. Weren't you going somewhere?
He grinned despite himself, patted her on the side of the neck, and took off at a slow jog to retrieve another container of oil. Within a minute he was back by her side, watching the perversely childish ritual of Terisath's feeding; she'd decided to bypass his hand-feeding while he oiled her scales and go straight for the bowl.
Splitting his attention between Terisath and Ues, he mused, "The bond... I never imagined it would be anything like this. I've only just learned her name, and yet I feel like..." A few things went through his mind, but 'if anything happened to her' was the last thing he wanted to think about. Ever. "...like we're..." He trailed off again. Maybe there just didn't exist the words to describe the bond between a dragon and a rider. "...like we're made for each other."
That's very sweet, Atta, came Terisath's voice again.
"Are you mocking me?" he replied, half-serious.
Please, Atta, we haven't known each other long enough for me to joke with you, let alone mock you. Rest assured, we both feel the same bond. A little to the left, please.
Obeying, Atta shook his head and looked back to Ues.
"So... What comes next? I mean..." He broke off, reddening. They'd been over this in training, and Atta in particular had gone over it twice, having failed to Impress a dragonet at his first Hatching. But with Terisath taking up residence in his mind - in more than one way - a lot of details were going out the window.

Name: M'ra Jadeth Nick name before impressing: Jade and some people still call her that now and then. Gender: Female Age: 20 Turns Dragon Name: Nerikath Dragon Color: Gold Weyr: High Reaches
!!!!!!!FYI!!!!!!!!Nerikath is not a full grown dragon yet as she is only 13 months old when I start role playing on this board.
Appearance: Straight, blonde hair with emerald green eyes, medium build, and has light ivory skin tone. Her hair came down to her waist so she usually had it in a long braid that she could coil up into a bun when she going flying or just to keep her hair under control. Thanks to her widow's peak, it gives her face has a heart shape to it. Has high cheek bones and a button nose. M'ra tend to wear cloths that mostly dark colors.
History: M'ra Jadeth was in training to be a harper when she was Searched at the age of 18. She didn't impress her gold dragon, Nerikath until after her 19th turn. While she was waiting to impress a dragon, she continued her training with the journeyman harper that was stationed at the weyr she was at, incase she didn't impress a dragon at all.
She was planning first to be a healer like her mother and father were but realized that she couldn't even dissect a frog without getting sick. So her mother suggested that she might go be train as a harper and she jumped at the idea. Mara has a mezzo-soprano voice range and she can play the drums, lute, and obliviously can sing very well.
Personality: As mentioned above, M'ra get quesy when it comes to looking at someone's insides. She is humble when it comes to her harper's abilities. She tends to be a loner most of the time as she trying to come up with new songs to write and sing when she not doing her weyr duties. So most people in the High Reaches Weyr thought that she would end up impressing a green but she prove them wrong when she impressed Nerikath, a gold dragon. She is friends with T'ceil and sometimes helped him in the past to pulled off some pranks in the weyr. She is a friendly person when she opens up to you and sometimes like to pull pranks on people every now and then with T'ceil.
Family if mentioned at all: (If someone wants to rp one of her family members, then PM me about it First before posting as one of them! ) Bathiel~ Father~ 61 turns~Healer Heather~ Mother~ 57 turns~Healer Daniel~ Brother~30 turns~ Tanner Gingeral~ Sister~ 14 turns~ She hasn't thought of what she wants to do with her life but helps out at the Healers' Hall where her parents work at for now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Name: C'lso Age: 25 Turns Gender: Male Dragon name: Zaleth Dragon color: Bronze Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Appearance: C'lso is six feet and five inches tall. He has shoulder length black hair that has big curls in it. He has a large frame and that he got from his father. He wasn't large because of being fat, but being very muscular. If he was on Terra, you would say he was from Italy. He had the big Italian nose, the olive skin tone, the brown eyes and that black curly hair like his forefathers of Italian descent had.
History: C'lso was Celso before impressing his Zaleth when he was fifteen turns old. He was about to be apprentice as a tanner when he was searched at the age of 14 turns old. His parents died in a freak accident not long after he impressed Zaleth. (Celso means tall in Italian)
Personality: He's a smooth talker and a womanizer. He tends to get almost everything he wants. He acts like nothing in the world can stand in his way. He does his weyr duties with complaning alittle and sometimes gets someone else to do it for him, depending what it is.
OOC: what time period are we in? Is there still thread? has Aivis been found? is the south continent been found/re-colonized?
T'ceil watched with misty eyes as various pairs of new dragons found their riders to form the blissful bond that he shared with his Zenith. ['But I was never that small, maybe I was once as small as Keagith but I was never that tiny!'[/b]] Zenith ringed into T'ceil's mind and the Rider received strange looks from the holders around him when he chuckled.
['But you were! I swear by your shining blue hide that you were once that small...but then again I was even smaller than a lot of those boys out there when you found me. Maybe the bigger the rider is the smaller the dragon then eh Zen?'] T'ceil inquired of his dragon as he watched a lanky boy with a blue leave the sands.
['If that is the case there would have been a monster on the loose had I not beaten that bronze to you.'[/b]] Zenith retorted smugly.
['what?'] T'ceil, who had been leaning casually against a wall promptly fell over with a yelp. Zenith snickered in his head again; that tricky dragon had pulled a prank on him! ['Don't joke about that! I wouldn't be able to even imagine be partners with someone other than you Zen..'] T'ceil desided that the holders were giving him too many dirty looks and looked at the hatching ground after standing up. It was empty of dragons but not of candidates; he hated seeing that. He remembered all to well what it felt like to be left on the sands.
['But I found you didn't I?'] Zenith asked after a while. The dragon was very concerned for his 'Ceil and even rose up on his haunches outside; eyes swirling with hues of yellow.
['I am fine Zen!'] T'ceil quickly calmed his friend; when an over-sized Blue started making a ruckus everyone got involved. ['I'll meet you outside my friend; you can check for yourself alright?' Zenith quieted and swung down to pick up his hider from the entrance to the hatching grounds once the petite man emerged.
OOC: Your character is great L'tia.
And to answer your question, solipsism... Older dragons might enjoy sand baths when they are older, but for a young dragonet oil is the way to go--it helps their skin stay moist and healthy for how swiftly they grow. Also a note. While humans often talk to dragons--the dragons can't telepathically speak back to anyone but their rider. There have been certain people/dragons that speak to others, but it is very rare. So anyone wishing to know what a dragon is saying needs to either ask their dragon to relay the message or the rider. There is a lot of "Dragon said this." OR "Dragon tells me to tell you that Rider says this." etc on Pern.
Rynne - Your post is fine. Thanks. Time is sometime after White Dragon, roughly, but nothing set in stone. I have no idea what Alwhatever is so yeah.
----- ----- ----- ----- -----
"So... What comes next? I mean..." A'sen said somewhat awkwardly. Ues couldn't help but let out a scoff.
"I hope this is just some sort of a stupor he's in," Ues thought as she finished oiling and rose to her feet, "because if he's this much of a wherry-head all the time he'll be useless against Thread."
I'm tired Ues. Peredith said with something akin to a yawn. His eyes seemed dull and the lids seemed to flicker. Although, Ues hadn't needed to see his sleepy face to know he was exhausted, she felt it too--and in that moment all she wanted to do was seek the comforts of warm down.
"For you?" she said in response to A'sen, "I know not what is in store, but I should advise you to seek out a Wingsecond if you are having trouble understanding Terisath's cues." Her tone was flat, and from Ues that meant she wasn't being as harsh as her words suggested--however her fellow Weyrling might not realize it.
Lets go. Peredith said nudging Ues' leg with his snout.
And with that the two turned their backs on A'sen and Terisath and sauntered off towards the Weyrling sleeping quarters where, at present, was unoccupied. It was no surprise to either Ues or her dragon that they were the first to retire. They had, after all, had a far more exhausting time breaking shell and Impressing...or so they thought at any rate.
Good bye for now Green Sister. Peredith added lightly before they were out of view.
Once in their assigned weyr Ues waited a few moments to make sure they hadn't been followed before letting out a great sob. She collapsed to her knees in front of Peredith and wrapped her arms around his neck. "By the first egg I am blessed!" tears began falling down her face in streams, "How did I get a Bronze?!"
You're crying...but... Peredith's eyes reflected Ues' conflicting emotions.
"I love you so much Peredith, it hurts, but I just don't understand how this is possible. I'm so happy..." Ues said between breaths.
Ues remained clinging to Peredith quite some time before she was able to regain control of herself.
I'm glad you are alright. Peredith said curling up on his stone couch comfortably.
"H-how could I not be alright." Ues said with a sniff, her eyes laden with the call of sleep. She didn't even bother slipping under the covers of her bed before beginning to drift off. And in mere moments the young girl was dreaming her first dream with her wonderful beautiful bronze.
((And now I have an idea of 'what comes next'. XD I'm relying way too much on your cues. I really hope Dragonflight comes soon. <_< As to the oil/sand, now that I think about it, I believe that's how it was in Jousters. Once their scales harden fully, sand is used to buff them. Mmkay. I don't think this post will surprise anyone, but parts of it brought tears to my eyes. I love this sentimental stuff. )) Atta's hand stopped massaging the oil, and his mouth came open in response to Ues' apparently disdainful instructions, trying to revise his clumsy wording: "Ah - no, I wasn't - I'm sorry, I - " but between his embarrassment and Peredith's apparent desire to get moving, he couldn't find the right words. Then something Ues had said registered anew with him. He blinked in surprise and turned to Terisath. As an afterthought, he began to move his hands again. He'd covered most of her left side without realizing it. "Did he... Were you trying to tell me something that I missed?" He misunderstood your question, Atta, Terisath said soothingly, still looking in the direction Ues and Peredith had gone. That's all. Please, don't worry so much. You have me, don't you? And I have you. I can't bear to see you so upset, especially over something so simple as a misunderstanding."I... I'm sorry. I didn't want to make you worry." Terisath actually shook her head, such a ponderous gesture from an infant dragon. The more you fret, the more I will fret. And likewise the other way around. Relax; everything will be all right. Ahh, that feels wonderful, Atta. Would you mind doing the back of my neck one more time? Then I think we ought to get to sleep. I'm exhausted."As well you should be," Atta said, moving over to reach the back of Terisath's head, which was where he knew she really wanted the extra attention. He wasn't sure how exactly he knew that, but he didn't dwell on it. "After fighting your way out of that egg..." His voice fell and his hands slowed, overcome suddenly with the wish that he could have watched Terisath hatch. He knew it couldn't be helped, and she loved him regardless, but somewhere inside, he knew that was a small wound that would never quite heal. It was a struggle for life and death, to be sure, Terisath interrupted his morose thoughts. But it's over now, and I found you waiting for me at the end of it, Atta.Waiting, Atta thought to himself. He could feel his thoughts tending toward the usual brooding side again, and resolved not to let his habits ruin the mood. He stood up on his toes to peer at the upper surface of Terisath's neck; it was satiny and smooth, an almost aquatic shade of green in this light. He'd done a good job here. But in the crook where her head joined her neck, he could see a spot that by now was beginning to look lamentably dry and obviously uncomfortable. Still on his toes, he dabbed a bit more of the oil onto his hands and reached over to touch up the missed spot. "Did I miss anywhere else?" he asked lightly. Honestly, she thought slowly, I think I'm too tired to notice if you did. I'll forgive you if I wake up with an itchy spot, but for now I think you're doing fine, darling.Something about her tone made tears spring to his eyes, but he smiled and said simply, "Then let's get you to bed. We'll have a busy day ahead of us, I'm sure." ~ Some fifteen minutes later, sequestered in their assigned weyr, Atta found himself unable to wind down to sleep. He remained sitting on the edge of the bed, eyes locked onto Terisath's majestic - if not quite matured - head. Well, maybe majestic wasn't the right term for a green dragon, but by this point, he wouldn't have traded her for anything. He supposed that was to be expected, but... "I didn't expect anything like this," he murmured. Her ponderous head came up and swiveled to look over at him. I don't think this bond can be expected by anyone, her voice came softly. She was already drifting off to sleep; it wouldn't be fair to keep her awake with mindless chatter. But... You really love me, he thought directly to her, rather than speaking aloud. He could feel the tears again, but they didn't fall. You really... He spent a long time searching for more words, but the darkness crept over his mind and drew his eyelids shut before any came.
((OOC: *Evil grin to Rynne*))
M'ra watched as the Hatching at the High Reaches Weyr came to a close. She knew how it felt to be left standing there on the sands without impressing a dragon for the first time, second and third time before she impressed Nerikath on the fourth try. M'ra thought mostly to herself and Nerikath heard her and answered her.
{I say about fifteen candidates. Maybe they will impress next time around. It took you a few times before you impressed me. I was worth the extra wait.} Nerikath said proudly as she then looked over to Zenith, to see him rising up on his haunches and his eyes turning yellow. She grew alarmed this and asked, {Anything wrong down there my M'ra?}
Before Nerikath asked her what was wrong, M'ra had seen T'ceil fall and got up as to go see if he was okay. She was almost halfway to him when he got up and headed down to the sands if nothing had happened. [No, I think Zenith said something to T'ceil and it caught him off guard. You know that Zenith likes to play tricks on people.] M'ra said to her as she went down the stairs to the sands. [One day, you will be watching over your own dragonets hatch and watch them impress some very special candidates. Yes, you were worth the wait, my dear Nerikath. Why don't go and get something to eat or go swimming?] M'ra answered and asked as she started to think about the mating flight.
Until now, she hadn't though about the mating flight that Nerikath would be flying in say, about six months or less from now. She started to think of the all the bronze dragons and their riders that were here at the High Reaches. M'ra was focus on that train of thought that she didn't realized that she went pass T'ceil on the way out to the walking path that led to the rest of the weyr. Usually she would stop to talk to him but this topic has rocked her mind in a way.
Ues awoke some hours later with a pain in her stomach. Her eyes clenched shut, angry that her sleep had been disturbed by something so stupid and disgusting. Despite how tired Peredith had made her, Ues just couldn't sleep fitfully for more than a few hours at a time during her time. It was annoying to say the least. With a small groan, she rolled over and pulled the thick blanket around her frame, but it did nothing to ease her discomfort. In his sleep Peredith rumbled softly, not in sympathy for her aches, but more like in soothing. Ues smiled and let her eyes open and was mildly surprised to find her surroundings as dark as before.
Sitting up Ues' eyes quickly found the dull blue light of the Glows and reached out for the basket. Standing up she held the basket out to light her path. She had to find the passage to the bathing facility, but couldn't quite recall the way. Ues wasn't from High Reaches weyr, or the nearby Hold, so she'd had no experience in making her way around.
Still groggy, the young girl made her way past the other pairs of sleeping Weyrlings as cautiously as she could manage only stumbling once over one fool who fell in the middle of the walk. Shells he was lucky Ues didn't kick him! Overjoy and exhaustion over an Impression was no excuse for being a complete fool. Grumbling slightly in spite of herself Ues eventually found the bathroom and spent several minutes taking care of her needs and straightening out her wrappings before making her way back towards the Weyrling Barracks.
When she arrived Peredith was beginning to stir from his slumber. Feeling guilty for having woken her precious bronze Ues pulled the blanket off of her bed and settled herself down beside the dragonet. "Don't bother even opening one perfect eye of yours..." she said softly as she rested her head next to his. She reached out a hand traced over his eye ridges with her fingertips.
It's taking all I have not to ignore that, came the dull, yet amused response. All I want to do is just stare at you. Peredith's eyes didn't so much as flicker, but what he said was true, he just wasn't awake enough to even move even a twitch.
"Same...here..." Ues said with a yawn, pushing the glowbasket away with her foot to hide it's light.
A few moments later a sound prompted Ues' almost sleep-ridden eyes to snap open.
Footfalls.
She lifted her head an inch, her eyes catching the glows of a basket above her. Was it the Wingmaster checking up on the noise from her Barrack? "Hnn...?" the unintelligible noise left her throat with a tone of puzzlement. She'd been mere seconds from falling asleep again, so all conversational language skills had been thrown between.
(Since I have time and I'm bored and I was a bit premature in jumping to the next morning and no one else has gone to the next morning yet, *gasping breath*, I'm going to back up and add a little bit more to bide my time. Unfortunately, it'll also require a small edit of my last post, but nothing intensive, and you shouldn't need to go back and reread it or anything. But I'm going to do it anyway for continuity.
The Dragonlover's Guide (which I did go and check out from the library, so nyah XP) is very helpful on some points but unfortunately lacking in a few admittedly trivial specifics, so I maintain my earlier statement: Let me know if I goof up. -_- On a side note, I actually included a quote from the Guide in this post. XD)You really... Atrisen was flying, soaring alone through the skies over Pern. He could see dragons and their riders around him, but he flew alone, the way he always had. Ahead, he saw, was the Thread - the sight of it brought a tremor through his guts, but he had nothing to fear. After all, he was born to do this.
He flashed forward into the range of the Threadfall and proceeded to reach out with his hands. Every Thread he touched burned to ash in an instant, and while the dragons around him struggled to evade its trajectory, Atrisen simply flashed through the storm, leaving a path of clear air behind him. He zigzagged through the storm, annihilating the Thread all over the battlefield. He could hear shouts of encouragement from the others, but the beating of his own heart was louder, echoing across the sky.
You really...
He faltered all of a sudden; something was wrong, but what? Something had changed. Something had disappeared - he was missing something. But what? It must have been something he didn't even know he had, but the feeling of something missing...
He reached out to destroy another Thread, but instead of burning away, the scourge attached itself to his finger, sending ripples of pain up his entire arm. He stared, wide-eyed, as it appeared to sink into his flesh. Another Thread landed on his upper arm, and he felt one attach itself to the back of his neck. The pain was like nothing he'd ever felt before.
Then he was falling. It seemed every second he collided with another Thread. The air rushed past his face; his stomach leaped into his throat; the Thread dug deeper into his body, wracking him in the worst agony he'd ever experienced. He felt his eyes rolling up into his head, and then a Thread came up to plaster itself across his eyes, rendering them both useless as it scored his flesh irreparably. He'd never see again. He'd never walk again either, he thought as the pain faded to the background of his mind and he reflected on the Thread devouring his legs. He'd never taste anything again - the Thread was even now dissolving his tongue and lower jaw away into nothing. He'd never...
The ground came suddenly and without warning, but it was not an unwelcome sensation after the ravages of the Thread. One great moment of crushing weight, and then nothing. No falling. No sound. No Thread. No...What did I lose? The thought echoed through dead silence. Suddenly, he knew he was dreaming. Somehow, the knowledge didn't make any difference. He felt... peaceful. But he wanted to know... What had really killed him? What had he needed, up there in the Thread-polluted sky, that he had lost?You really... His heart was still beating. He couldn't hear or feel anything else, but the pounding rhythm of it remained in his chest.
Then a worm burrowed into the center of it, and even that faded.Atrisen flies alone, someone whispered. A'sen doesn't have to. ~ He was asphyxiating - he was sure of it. He awoke clawing his way up through layers of suffocating darkness only to realize that he was still in his bed in the weyr, tangled in the scratchy blanket. Terisath was staring at him, wide-eyed and unmoving. Oh, Terisath... he thought, clumsily pulling himself out of the bed and staggering over to throw his arms around her neck. Terisath, I'm so sorry. Don't worry for me. It was just a bad dream.Atta, came her voice, trembling in a way that caught him off guard like a brick in the back of the head, what happened?Nothing, sweetling, nothing at all. Yet again, tears were rising, but this time, he felt a few spilling over. He closed his eyes and latched onto the mental connection with Terisath, taking comfort in that. You said it yourself, Terisath, I have you and you have me. It was just a bad dream. Don't you dream?I don't know, Terisath replied, but if 'dreams' have that kind of effect, I'm not sure I would want to.A'sen laughed and tightened his arms around Terisath's neck. They're not all like that, sweetling. But I'll stop confusing you. I like it better when you act mature and superior.Well, Terisath said, calming herself a little, to be mature and superior, I must say that you might want to try to go back to sleep - you weren't out for very long.After a dream like that, who could blame him? And after a dream like that, he wasn't eager to go back to sleep. They're having a feast outside, he thought to Terisath. I'm going to go find a bite to eat, then I'll come back, I promise. Okay?Atta, came Terisath's voice as she tilted her head. You won't go far?He smiled and released his arms, letting them fall from around her neck, and looked up at her. I promise to stay in touch. If you need me and I don't respond, feel free to wreak havoc and hunt me down, okay? But you need sleep a lot more than I do, sweetling, so don't wait up for me.Terisath sighed, a long, gusty exhalation that made her feelings on the matter quite clear. Don't be like that, A'sen thought soothingly as he ran his hand across her shoulder. You know better than anyone what it's like to be hungry, so don't begrudge me a bite to eat.I won't, she said. I'll try to sleep, since you seem concerned. And I am tired, just as you say.Thank you, Terisath. I won't be long. Giving her a last hug around the neck, he stood up and quietly left his weyr.
((My turn Lav; we will have to have the paths cross at the feast that the others will be missing, if Zen doesn't do something I can't predict... and I am going to assume that thread still falls? maybe this could be an alternet Pern where the Red Star is not moved but we have Honshu weyr?))
Even without a harness or riding gear, T'ceil vaulted easily onto Zen's back. ['anywhere you want Zen; we can time it if we have to'] T'ceil thought to his dragon, letting Zenith pick what to do always yielded interesting results. But this time T'ceil was surprised.
{'I want a nap nearby; you don't always see your friends and I've spotted Nerikath up on the ridge; that means that M'ra is here...} Zen snickered at T'ceil's sudden stiffness and widened eyes.
[You wouldn't...no-!']T'ceil was cut off form finishing is plead as the very large Blue started waddling, anything more respectful would be for a time when he was not being so mean to his rider, towards M'ra, bellowing a greeting as he did. "Zen stop will you?!" T'ceil begged to no avail; M'ra was one of his friends to be true but her Nerikath was a gold and almost grown, they should be getting to know the bronzes; not some prankster Bluerider.
Zen continued his waddling prosess towards the thoughtful M'ra walking in a way that it made it impossible for T'ceil to slip off of his back. {'Hello M'ra,} He greeted her directly to impose his rider to talk with her. {'Can you look after 'Ceil for me while I take a nap?'} the Blue dragon asked graciously as people stared.
((If I didn't know any better, I would say that you wanted to be at the Honshu Weyrhold instead of the High Reaches Weyr.... Personally, for the time period, I would rather it be before Lord Jaxom impresses Ruth so we don't have to worry about AVIS and bringing in the new technology but that's just me. That's up to Silver to decide that though.)) Nerikath watched M'ra continue walking toward the feast as M'ra didn't noticed Zenith bellowing a greeting to her. {My M'ra, Zenith just sent a greetings to you and heading your way,} Nerikath said as she watched Zenith is waddling towards M'ra.{Swimming does sound good, and then I'll take a nap.} Nerikath told her as she then got up from the ridge and flew down to the lake. M'ra hadn't notice Zenith bellowing at her as she was used to the dragons bellowing now and then. Then she heard Nerikath speaking to her into mind, which she forgot about what was on her mind for the moment.[Oh, that was Zenith bellowing? I didn't notice.] She thought back to her but Neriakth was already over at the lake, enjoying a swim. She turned around to find Zenith there with T'ceil already on Zenith's back. "Already planning to go some where T'ciel? And miss the feast?" M'ra asked him loudly enough so T'ceil could hear her. She was hoping that he wasn't going to leave as she had planned to sit with him at the feast.She really should start to get to know the bronze riders so she would know which person and dragon to mate with but she rather spend some time with T'ceil. Too bad that Zenith wasn't a brown or bronze, M'ra thought before realizing what she thought to herself.
((I like Honshu...... And T'ceil is not "hooking up" Atta, that is like cradle robbing and besides that Zenith will fly only dragons he likes(this sometimes makes it awkward for T'ceil). But no; I'll leave Atta for you Risa; I've been trying to get T'ceil to meet up with you two buuuutt nuuuuuuuu....you had to dodge the feast, go faster than us adult riders and practically make this two separate rps....*snicker*))
Zenith was grinning to himself, a trait he picked up from his rider, as he daintily sat down in front of M'ra; tilting one of his wings in order to prevent T'ceil's escape. "uhh, Hia there M'ra how are you doing?" T'ceil wanted to hit Zenith; he had been trying to encourage M'ra to get to know the bronze riders so when her Nerikath has her flights, Nerikath could try to choose the dragon belonging to the rider M'ra fancies.
"uhh, the feast? No I wasn't going to miss it...urr, My and Zen were going to go somewhere but we would have comeback in time for it." T'ceil recovered enough to give a wink to M'ra; as it was him who offered to teach her how to learn to go between in time. T'ceil slide off of Zenith's back with a concealed kick and Zen snickered again in his mind before pacing away to get wing room. ['I'll get you for this Zen; you know why I am trying to let other riders become her friends...'] T'ceil's own words sounded weak; as if he didn't want to say or believe them.
Zenith flew upwards and once at a nice high altitude, he glided to the lake; joining the other dragons in enjoying the cool waters. 'some nap....' T'ceil thought to himself with a slight frown.
OOC: Augh, sorry.
The message I added onto my last post didn't take apparently... *frowns*
It said basically that I was just posting it there to save it for later--for lack of a behaving Word Document--and to give you guys some time to RP together. I'm not trying to break up the RP into sections, I just needed time for other things. So please disregard my post for now and I'll make it playable after you guys catch up more. I'll delete this, and my previous post when I am able to actually make it fit into the RP.
Sorry for the interruption, and don't leave poor Atta out of the action because of my momentary stepping-out. I should be able to get back into it later tonight, if you guys are at a place that could include my post...or whatever.
"I'm doing great and you?" M'ra replied back before T'ceil mentioned about timing flights. She had already knew how to time her flights from learning it from the senior weyrwoman but she didn't tell him that. She let him think that he taught her how to while she already knew how.
{Too bad that Zenith wasn't a brown or bronze, you say M'ra? Zenith's size rivals a brown dragon.} Nerikath said back to M'ra after T'ceil winked at her. That took M'ra by surprise and she started to blush a little. [Why did you had to say that right now of all things?] M'ra asked her as she tried her best to keep her emotions in check.Hopefully T'ceil doesn't notice me blushing, M'ra thought as she then headed over to where the feast was going on. Then she noticed the frown on his face.
"Anything wrong T'ceil?" M'ra asked as she didn't have clue what was going on in that head of his.
